The day before my parents flew back to Washington State we went to see the Atlantic Ocean. The water was so warm, the air had a breeze and (huge bonus) there was hardly anyone there! The scenery is amazing and it was a great time together as a family. Sophia absolutely LOVED the water more than anything. She would run head first with all her might, her little legs kicking sand behind her, straight into the ocean. It was great to see her that free and loving the outdoors as much as she did. However, there were two things I learned from our beach trip. While we were there Sophia discovered she could sit down and wait for a wave to wash over here. Yes OVER her. She thought it was hilarious as I would panic thinking she got sand in her eyes or was choking on mouth fulls of salt water because oh I don't know maybe she was drowning?!? I realized my child is already a thrill seeker and likes to cause her mama heart attacks at the age of two. The other experience I had was to see in my role, as a mom, that I need to let her experience things that are exciting and new to her.(within reason of course) I know if there is a moment she can't handle herself that's where I can step in and help her. Hmmmm maybe I need to make sure I revisit this thought again in about 11 years?!?
