So here is my before and after of our bedroom. A couple things to keep in mind. I have been working on it for the last month and a half or so and I needed to keep all the furniture we have and I couldn't paint the furniture or the room. (Since we are renting AND baby girl was coming soon that was out of the question anything associated with paint was out of the question) I basically added or changed up my wall hangings, curtains and bedding. There is one thing I am wanting to add, but I am out of time and energy at this point-I mean 2 1/2 weeks left and I seriously have NO ENERGY. Eventually I want to make a pallet box for our wall to put plants in, but bending over and actually putting in some work is not in the cards for me at this point. When I get around to doing it I will share it though! I am so excited that our master bedroom finally has some color and a "theme" to it!
The end result! We got our bedding at Ikea (they have great prices on their comforter covers!) I made the pillows from a sheet and a pillow case I found. The emerald green throw I made! I looked everywhere for emerald green and did not want to pay more for that then the actual comforter so I made it from a sheet (used the same for the pillows). I mean I live in Florida anyway so having a light throw to use instead of our comforter works out well. I also sewed the green ties on the curtains, which we also bought at Ikea.
The pictures I was using beforehand were way too small for the wall. The new ones take up the whole width of the wall and I think it looks much much better. I did the moss M in a post you can see here. The green watercolor picture I painted myself and am totally in love with it! (a DIY post will be coming on how I did it) I also created the canvas writing using a paint pen and some inspiration from Pinterest. It was super easy and a took a huge space on the wall. The pop of green frame, on the upper right hand side, I had already painted myself as well as the the writing on it! I used a verse from our first song we danced to at our wedding. The picture in the lower right hand side is actually the inspiration for our room colors! We had gone to the Bahamas and at a banquet I wore an emerald green dress and Manny wore a gray suit and we loved the color combo, so I found it fitting to include that picture on our wall!
Just a couple vases and a white bird statue added to the dresser made it complete.
I actually used picture frames that were on our other wall already! Made it super easy and cheap to decorate! A win for me! If you scroll up and look at the second picture from the top you'll see what ones I used. I picked up a piece of wood for the Mr and Mrs sign from Home Depot and used a light white paint (because I wanted to be able to see the wood grain) and a black paint pen (from JoAnn's) to paint the Mr and Mrs. I used two small pots I already had to add some greenage (is that a word?!?) to the space and found the little silver tray at a second hand shop. I so needed someplace to put my earrings, glasses and rubber bands that I take off at night instead of just putting them on the nightstand and them just rolling around and ending up on the floor.
On my husbands side it basically needed a good cleaning, but I also moved the lamp, stacked his magazines and kept the tray for him to put his things in it. I also placed frames from our wall above the table and made the Mr sign as well.
Curtains on a window seriously change the whole ambiance of the room. They were super cheap and I think it just puts a room together! I didn't want to use full emerald green curtains so I just did dark gray and made the emerald green ties! It gives it an unexpected pop of color and I love how it looks! On a side note this is where I am wanting to make a little pallet box to place some plants inside. For now it looks fine, but eventually when I have some time (who am I kidding?) and energy(ok hubby might take this one on) it'll get done.
And there it is! I just love the colors and how the room goes together now! So many times I have tried decorating and it just doesn't seem right or I get all different kinds of things so it doesn't all "go" together. I used an inspiration board I created from images I found on Pinterest and that seemed to really help keep my focus on what I was looking for! I am really happy with how it turned out and it's a plus that I got the hubbys approval as well! I did find that using neutral colors and adding a pop of color is the easiest way to re decorate! I spent under $200 for changing everything in the room. (That includes the curtains and bedding! Yeah Ikea!) It's so nice to walk in my bedroom and feel like it's a nice room now!
