So for the Holidays I wanted something with a little pizzazz to it. Glitter is pretty much all things Holiday (and really the only time I wear it) but I am not one to be so flashy to wear sequined or glitterfied clothes. I decided to incorporate it into a Holiday outfit by way of an accessory. I have a cute plain black clutch/purse. It's so plain and has been asking me to make it over, so I decided it could be my glitter makeover accessory . Because it already had a large bow attached to the front it was easy for me to decide where to put the glitter, but this could work on a plain purse too. You could outline a bow on the front of your purse using chalk then follow the steps below!
I have had this purse forever. I use it whenever I got out because I think it's super cute and black goes with anything. It's a little plain, but I love the bow on the front. I got it from Forever21 in a clearance bin for $7.
Mod podge, glitter and a paintbrush are all you need. I used extra fine glitter, but you could use the larger glitter as well.
Pour some Mod Podge into a bowl with glitter and stir. I didn't measure (I just eye it) but it was about 1/4 cup Mod Podge and 1/8 cup glitter.
I put paper underneath the bow so the glitter would not get underneath on the black purse. If you were painting the front of a flat purse I would use tape around the chalk outline to ensure you have straight line.
I painted the glitter glue right onto the bow. I wanted to keep the middle tie on the bow black to add some contrast to it so I used a small paintbrush and was very careful to not get it in the middle of the bow.
I did two coats of the glitter glue (letting each coat dry completely) and then touched up some black spots that kept showing through.
I love this purse and how sparkly it came out! Mixing the glitter with Mod Podge ensures the glitter wont flake off! It's actually really smooth and I'm glad I decided to go with the extra fine glitter on this one!
I think this purse will be so cute to carry around to the Holiday parties I'm going to. Changing the bow gave the purse the "pop" it needed and even though it stands out the colors are neutral enough to be worn with any outfit!
Do you have any statement accessories you use for the Holidays?
