I love pinterest and have done so many inspired looks and crafts from that website. The downfall of the website (because I am a little bit of a shopaholic) is that I am looking at all these incredible outfits and want to buy them. Luckily for my husband I am a thriftaholic (just made that up) so after seeing these outfits I put them on my To Buy list and search for them in the cheapest way possible. I have, however, noticed that while I love all my clothes in my closet I just can't find the right outfits to wear. It's like a mental block. I pull out a shirt. I pair it with the same shoes and jeans every time. I have gotten rid of so many clothes that I don't love (I must be on about 10 garbage bags of clothes purged over the last 6 months) and I am keeping my promise to myself that when I buy a new shirt I get rid of one. (That way I have to LOVE what I am buying) I decided I needed to really see what outfits I can make out of what I already own. I decided to take my personal top five outfits I like on Pinterest and see if I could put the outfits together without buying anything. Turns out I have a lot more in my closet than what I thought I had. Every Friday for the month of October I'll be doing a Pinterest inspired outfit out of clothes I already own. There's nothing like looking in your closet and pulling out exactly what you need to make an outfit you want. Here are the five outfits that I put together and I'll share these with you over the course of this month.
A sneak Peek of five outfits I didn't know I even had.
First outfit up is a white vest outfit. I had gotten this white vest on a great sale at Kohls a few weeks ago. After I bought it I started pinning outfit ideas and loved this one. I actually thought I needed to go buy a few things to make this outfit. I have been looking for a colorful shirt to go under the vest and a pair of strappy sandals. Looking in my closet I realized I had a great tank from a summer purchase. I love the bright pink and how it gives the outfit a pop of color. I think this look is a great transitional outfit from summer to fall. Here in FL it's still 90 during the day, so wearing sweaters and jeans just isn't feasible yet. I changed a few little things, like having jean shorts with the super long frayed edges would not be practical in my "mommy world". I knew this would either become a play toy for Amelia or Sophia would be using it as a leash leading me around. Also wearing black strappy heels is a don't for me. It's just not practical romping around a playground with heels sinking into the ground. I found in the back of my closet a pair of flat sandals that would work for this look.
Using my Pinterest ap on my phone while in my closet was awesome. I was able to pull out everything I needed without running back and forth from my closet to the computer. I also didn't put the outfit on to try out the pieces. I just put it together, saw that it matched the look of the model and that's all I needed to see. I've come to realize trying on outfits while picking out the pieces can get overwhelming for me. I lose track of the "look" I am trying to go for and get fustrated. That in turn makes me think I don't have any clothes that work so I go out and buy more clothes. This process simplifies the whole thing for me.
It's amazing how many outfits I have been able to put together from clothes I already have in my closet. This month I will be focusing on clothes I already own and will not be buying myself new ones for the whole month of October. (My husband will be excited to hear this) Anyone who knows me knows how crazy hard this will be for me.What do you think about setting aside a certain amount of time (one week or maybe one month?) to not buy any new clothes for yourself and focus on what you own right now? I hope this gives you some inspiration to see what is in your own closet!
