All over pinterest the latest fad I would say is block letters. People use them for their initials, kids’ name, decor in the kitchen, living room, bathroom, dining room…..you get the idea. When Sophia was just born we did the traditional spelling out her name with wood letters I painted and hung on the wall above her crib with ribbon. Since she is getting a little older I wanted to do something more little girly and cute. I found a couple pictures on pinterest with people using buttons, fabric, fabric flowers etc. I found this and it gave me an idea! I wanted to take one of the huge cardboard letters I found at JoAnn Fabrics and fill it with flowers to make her initial, an S! Here is what I did and how it turned out!

I bought the S (only $5 with a 50% off coupon), foam board (5.99) Flowers of all colors (70% off since they’re getting ready for fall!?!) I spent total maybe $16 for everything!

I laid the S on the foam and traced the outline of the S with a sharpie.

Since the S was so large I had to put the bottom end at the bottom.

This was the hardest part. I had to cut the top part off the S so I would be able to put the foam inside of it. I used a knife and it took awhile but I cut about 1/2 inch of it off.

Ta da! There it is!

I then put the foam in. I had to adjust and cut some foam to put in smaller spots and trim it down. In the end you won’t be able to see it so it does not have to be perfect.

I took the flower off the long stem, which left a hard little end that I could stick into the foam.

I pushed the middle of the flower in all the way and done!

Then I just started putting them in all over. I tried to make sure to mix up the colors, but there’s no rhyme or reason to how I put them in!

Aren’t the colors great? I love all of them together!

And here it is! So cute and a large pop of color for my little miss! It didn’t take too long to make either! A short 1 1/2 hours for a great statement piece!

Since we are in the process of moving I have to wait to put it up in her room. Sophia already loves it and keeps saying “Yook mommy S for Sophia!” I am so excited to see how it looks once eerything is set up in our new place!
